SUMMARY
Chris Robertson has not stopped printing since he first started in his bedroom at fifteen. Needing more space to print and some education he went out into the world and eventually found a home and a like-minded community in Montreal. In his windowless studio he has seemingly printed for everyone and everything over the course of the last decade. Which has allowed him the freedom to create his own work, free from the creative restriction of trying to sell it. Instead he has dedicated his work to not only telling his own story and sharing the things that are important to him, but to also allow people, through printmaking, to share their stories and empower others to create. This is the work they consider to be vital to the future, most helpful to his local community and beyond, as social justice is at the heart of his motivation to create.
Working mainly in a combination of block printing and screen printing techniques, monolithic slabs of wood delineate the inner dialogue of their mind. The thoughts and feelings that create so much pressure inside our heads which if we don’t express them will manifest in unhealthy habits and actions, are instead channeled like a laser beam to monotonously cut blocks of wood into the truth as he knows it.
